Yesterday former policeman Brian Paddick gave evidence to the Leveson inquiry, including these claims about the Met Police:
Scotland Yard was accused today of leaking highly sensitive information about witnesses under its protection to a private investigator working for the News of the World.
It was also accused of “tipping off” Rebekah Wade about key developments in the phone hacking investigation when she was editor of The Sun.
Former deputy assistant commissioner Brian Paddick made dramatic claims that the Met was too close to News International – and refused to investigate even when the links were revealed. He said secret information about people with new identities was “leaked” to Glenn Mulcaire, the private investigator at the centre of the phone hacking scandal, who was jailed. (Evening Standard)
